About the Team
You will join the Data Platform team, which is responsible for operating, maintaining, and continuously developing the database platforms that support Saxo Bank’s global trading infrastructure. The team works in a technically complex environment where high availability, stability, and performance are essential to the bank’s business.
The department consists of six experienced database specialists located across Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and India. The team collaborates closely on both daily operations and strategic development initiatives, fostering a culture built on technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and shared ownership of the platform’s stability.
Microsoft SQL Server is the primary technology, but the team also works with PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Cosmos DB. In addition, the department collaborates closely with software development teams, DevOps engineers, infrastructure specialists, and Microsoft to continuously improve and modernize the database platforms.
About the Role
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key role in operating and developing Saxo Bank’s business-critical database platforms. You will work in an environment where database performance, stability, and security directly impact the company’s global trading platform and millions of daily transactions.
You will be working with large-scale SQL Server environments, complex database architectures, and systems with demanding requirements for scalability and low latency. At the same time, you will contribute to platform improvements, migration projects, and automation initiatives that support Saxo Bank’s continued growth.
The role involves close collaboration with software developers, DevOps engineers, infrastructure specialists, and Microsoft. A significant part of the position also includes operational responsibilities and troubleshooting production environments. Following your onboarding, you will join the team’s on-call rotation and help ensure platform stability outside normal business hours.

Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Administering, maintaining, and optimizing business-critical SQL Server environments.
- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving database-related incidents and performance issues.
- Performing performance tuning, query optimization, and root cause analysis.
- Supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Planning and executing database upgrades, migrations, and platform improvements.
- Collaborating with software developers, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure teams on database initiatives.
- Contributing to database security, compliance, and access management.
- Participating in automation, monitoring, and optimization initiatives.
- Supporting infrastructure, security, and modernization projects.
- Maintaining documentation, standards, and best practices.
- Participating in the team’s on-call rotation after onboarding.
Requirements
We imagine that you have:
- At least five years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in complex production environments.
- Solid experience administering, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience operating business-critical databases with high availability and stability requirements.
- Experience with backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database migrations.
- Experience working in operational environments where ownership, stability, and performance are key priorities.
- Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, PostgreSQL, or Cosmos DB is considered an advantage.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications are an advantage.
- A relevant technical degree in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
